Anne E. Becker, MD, PhD, ScM

Anne E. Becker, MD, PhD, SM is Dean for Clinical and Academic Affairs, Maude and Lillian Presley Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine, and Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. After receiving an MD-PhD at Harvard she completed residency training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as a master’s degree in epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. An anthropologist and psychiatrist, Dr. Becker’s areas of research focus include the social and cultural mediation of eating disorder pathology, social barriers to care for mental disorders, and school-based mental health promotion. Dr. Becker has previously served as vice chair of the HMS Department of Global Health and Social Medicine and director of the HMS MD-PhD Social Sciences program, and was the founding director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program. As the Harvard Medical School Dean for Clinical and Academic Affairs, Dr. Becker leads the HMS Office for Clinical and Academic Affairs and coordinates closely with three offices that provide services for HMS faculty: Academic and Research Integrity; Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Partnership; and the Office for Faculty Affairs.
