Heather Whitney, PhD
Associate Professor of Physics, Wheaton College
Heather M. Whitney is an associate professor of physics at Wheaton College. She has also worked as a research collaborator with the Department of Radiology at the University of Chicago since 2017. She is interested in investigating the relationship between the physical basis of medical imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) and computer-aided diagnosis (CAD), as well as measures of repeatability and robustness. She also investigates data harmonization methods in AI and CAD.
Dr. Whitney is a member of the Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center (MIDRC). MIDRC is a multi-institutional, collaborative initiative in medical imaging aimed at accelerating the transfer of knowledge and innovation, including clinical problem identification, discovery, development, evaluation, translation, implementation, and dissemination. She is a member of MIDRC’s Technology Development Project Group 3d (TDP3d), which focuses on developing methods for task-based distributions for evaluating AI algorithms. She also serves as liaison from TDP3d to the MIDRC Bias and Diversity Working Group. In this role, she is responsible for monitoring the diversity of the MIDRC medical imaging datasets.
