Linda Susan Sprague Martinez, PhD

Linda Sprague Martinez, Ph.D., is associate professor of community practice at the Boston University School of Social Work. In addition, she co-directs the Community Engagement Core of the BU Clinical Translational Science Institute. Dr. Sprague Martinez has expertise in urban health; CBPR and YPAR; photovoice; community assessment and mobilization; and qualitative research methods and analyses. Her research is focused on advancing health equity and as such participatory research approaches are central to her work. Having formerly worked in municipal and state governance, and as an adolescent mental health provider, Dr. Sprague Martinez brings practical expertise in cross sector collaborations and resident engagement. Her work has been funded by NIH, OBSSR, PCORI and HRSA. In addition to her funded research, Dr. Sprague Martinez serves as an External Evaluator for Boston Public Health Commission’s Boston Youth Resiliency and Recovery Collaborative as well as the Preventing Violence Affecting Young Lives Initiative. In 2017 she was a Boston Housing Authority, Center for Community Engagement and Civil Rights, Resident Empowerment Coalition, Resident Empowerment Honoree. She completed her doctoral studies in social welfare policy at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
